Handle 1. NAFC-FC BAYOU-STAR FLEURTY GIRL, “Fleurt,” BLF, Mark Menzies

Fleurt and Mark came to the line at 5:11 pm

LR - Good line and one loop in the area to get her bird

SR - Line was wide going out left and she kept going - was quickly handled with a few whistles

LF - Line went out right of the short flyer guns, rand to the top of the hill - curved around behind the long flyer guns and went straight to the bird!

SF - Slightly wide line out - she arrived in the area and went straight for the bird!



106. FC-AFC OCTOBER SKY’S SWEET BABY BEAUREGARD, “Beau,” YLM, Chad Worsell

Beau and Chad came to the line at 5:01 pm

LF - Excellent line - ran just passed and then a quick turn and got it

SR - Smacked it!

SF - A turn deep and then spun around - quickly was turned back for his bird and got it

LR - A huge hunt but he got it clean!

Jagger and Jeff came to the line at 4:53 pm

LF - Behind the bale - took a few loops deep and then back down and got it!

SF - 1 loop and then he scooped it up!

LR - Straight to his bird!

SR - Good line but he kept going - had to be handled back to this one

Hope and Shane came to the line at 4:44 pm

LF - Straight to the fall area - turned and got the bird

SR - Straight to the bird

LR - Straight to the fall area - turned in and grabbed her bird

SF - Drove through the fall area and was handled back down to the bird on this one

Ollie and John came to the line at 4:35 pm

SF - Lined out to the fall area, turned to the right and got her bird

LR - Good line - slightly wide of the fall - a few large loops left and right and then she was on her bird

SR - Out to the area slightly to the right and kept going almost up the hill - took a loop and then came back down - one more loop and she was to the bird

LF - Lined straight to the fall area - turned in and got it!

Lottie and Chris came to the line at 4:25 pm

LF - Several turns out of the area  - came back down to the area and got it

SR - Went to the left bale - quickly moved to the right and got her bird

LR - Arrived in the general area and hunted it up and got it

SF - Drove past it on up the hill - handled - picked up

Dylan and Sammie came to the line at 4:05 pm

LF - Straight to the fall area - turned back and scooped it up

SF - Came in right of the bird - turned left and got it

SR - Wide right approach - kept going and had to handle back to this bird

LR - Pop - Dog was picked up

Flex and Johnny came to the line at 3:57 pm

LF - Line was under the arc - took a couple small loops at the fall and got it!

SR - Line took him to the fall area - had a loop and had the bird!

LR - Came in right of the bird and had a large loop left past the road and then looped back to the bird - got it!

SF - Line brought him near the SR area and he was handled - but eventually picked up



Handle 99. FC-AFC SEASIDE’S SMARTY JONES, “Smarty,” BLF, Derek Smith

Smarty and Derek came to the line at 3:45 pm

LF -  Line took her to the fall area -  she turned around and got her bird

SR - Good line to the fall area - then a few loops - went right and then back left and back again - to the fall area and her bird

LR - Good line and then a few loops left and right and slightly past the blind and the fall - but she got the bird

SF - Ran through the fall area and kept going, almost to the top of the hill - was handled back down and tot he bird with several whistles



Handle 98. FC-AFC IZZY GITTIN’ BIZZY, “Izzy,” BLF, Jim Horneck

Izzy and Jim came to the line at 3:33 pm

SR - Drilled it!

SF - Into the pond and straight to her bird!

LR - Very wide left - came back in to the guns and around the tree and then the bale - then the tree - then the bale - around and around - to the right area but not deep enough - was handled to this bird

LF - Out to the area and got her bird

Handle 93. IDAHO’S DUCK’S, BUCK’S & TRUCK’S, “Trucker,” BLM, Darin Quigley

Trucker and Darin came to the line at 3:06 pm

LF - Line was right to it - turned left and went to the bird

SF - A few loops in the area and then to the bird - it was still alive and had moved a bit

LR - Line was wide for the fall - took a few loops back and forth between the blind and the fall and he got it

SR - Good line the fall area but drove through it and up the hill and went deep - several loops and was handled back in to the bird for this one



94. AFC YOU STOLE MY HEART MAGGIE MAE, “Maggie,” BLF, Mark Medford

Maggie and Mark came to the line at 3:15 pm

LF - Excellent line  - quick retrieve

SF - Perfect Line!

SR - Came in left - made a quick adjustment and scooped it up!

LR - Went very deep - hunted deep - popped - covered the area and beyond but kept missing it - finally worked it out and she got it!

Lottie and Chris came to the line at 3:04 pm and had a No-Bird, they will be back after 6

Ike and Greg came to the line at 2:47 pm

LF - Straight to the fall area - very tight turns and he got it!

LR - Hunted wide left on the wrong side of the road - crossed the road - went deep and was handled back to this bird

SR - Very nice mark!

SF - Had to be handled to this bird.



Handle 84. FC-AFC NIGHTWINGS MOONLIGHT MARSH GUIDE, “Leader,” BLM, Steve Cote

Leader and Steve came to the line at 2:39 pm

LF - Up the hill after crossing the left side of the pond - came in behind the guns and deep - took a few loops before he got the scent from the birds - worked it out and got it

SR - Excellent line to the bale - hunted right and moved left to the bird

SF - Excellent line to the bale - hunted right and moved left to the bird

LR - Up wide right and deep - had to be handled back down to the bird



Handle 83. FC-AFC J & C’S ANOTHER ROUND IN THE CHAMBER, “Bullet,” BLM, Joseph Couey

Bullet and Joseph came to the line at 2:30 pm

LF - Line was left of the fall area, took a big loop - came down close to the SR area and was handled to the LF bird

SR - Line brought him under the arc - he went deep and took 1 loop - came back in and was back for the bird

SF - Straight to the bird on this one!

LR - Out under the arc - turned right and went straight to retrieve this bird



82. FC-AFC LABRADOR SPRINGS BLACK TIE AFFAIR, “Tux,” BLM, Jack Gwaltney, III

Tux and Jack came to the line at 2:22 pm

LF - Came in under the arc and went to his bird quickly

SF - Line brought him in under the arc, took a small loop and went to the bird

SR - Straight to it!

LR - Great line out - slightly right of the bird - had one medium loop and he got it!

Madduxx and Jamie came to the line at 2:11 pm

LF - Direct line!

LR - Out wide right and deep - came back in and got his bird!

SR - Drove deep and made a big loop - drove deeper and was handled back to this bird

SF - Had to be handled to this bird also





Handle 80. FC-AFC RC’S LIFE OF RILEY, “Riley,” BLF, Dick Kaiser

Riley and Dick came to the line at 2:02 pm

LF - Through the pond - up to the fall area and missed it - expanded her search - but was handled to keep her out of the short flyer area

SR -  Out just left - had a quick turn and got it!

LR - Out to the bird - very nice!

SF - Very nice mark on this one!

Koufaxx and Lauren came to the line at 1:54 pm

LF - Out under the arc, took a loop and then he was over to his bird

SR - Straight to the bird on this one!

LR - Out wide right and deep - took 2 large loops and then another smaller one to locate his bird

SF - Went through the water and under the arc - one loop and he had his bird



78. FC-AFC DRAKE’S BAY IZZY, “Izzy,” BLF, Rick Wilke

Izzy and Rick came to the line at 1:42 pm

LF - Good line under the arc - drove up the hill a little and then turned back and down to the bird

SR - Line was right of the blind, took a loop left to the next bale and then back and another loop to locate her bird

LR - Drove past the fall area to the right, went a little farther deep and then turned and came in left towards the retired tree - then over to her bird

SF - Went straight through the water to the fall area - turned her body around twice and grabbed her bird



77. FC-AFC BENTWATER’S PERFECT STORM, “Hailee,” BLF, Steve Helgoth

Hailee and Steve came to the line at 1:32 pm

LR - out past the guns and got very deep - climbed the hill almost to the long flyer - but she came back down for her bird

LF - Crossed the pond just left of the hen duck gunners and drove up and angled straight to her bird

SR - Straight to the fall area and missed it - she was short - had a very tight hunt and located her bird

SF - Swam up under the arc and Smacked it!



76. FC-AFC TRUMARC’S WEST POINT, “Army,” BLM, Sylvia McClure

Army and Sylvia came to the line at 1:25 pm

LF -  Out around the pond and straight to the bird

SR - Nice! Straight to it!

SF - Through the pond towards the guns - turned right and went out to the fall area and then his bird

LR -  Went out left of the road - crossed over and went a little deep - quickly turned back left and got it!



5th Series - Test Description

5th Series Test Description
Land Quad with 2 Flyers and 2 Retired 
Lucy Too Property

The 5th series is a Land Quad with 2 Flyers and 2 Retired Birds. We are sitting on a hillside facing SSW with the wind coming out of the NNW. This site is in the shape of a bowl with a pond at the bottom. The Long Flyer station is on the the opposite hill side from the mat, the Short Flyer is at the bottom of the hill. Both retired birds are at the base of the bowl right off of a dirt road that runs along the bottom. The terrain is fairly close cropped grass with a  few evergreens and 25 to 30 hay bales. The order of the 4 birds is as follows:

Bird # 1 (LR)  The long retired gun station is behind a large evergreen tree just right of the the road. The Rooster is thrown to the right landing approximately 215 yards from the matThis bird will be referred to as LR for Long Retired.

Bird # 2 (SF)  This Short Flyer station with a hen mallard flyer is on the back side of the pond. This bird is thrown and shot to the right, landing 130 yards from the matThis bird will be referred to as SF for Short Flyer.

Bird # 3 (SR)  The short retired gun station is located behind a hay bale with bushes around it about 40 yards deep of the Short Flyer station. This bird is a hen pheasant and is thrown sharp angled to the left and lands 170 yards from the mat.  This bird will be referred to as SR for Short Retired.

Bird # 4 (LF)  This Long Flyer station also uses hen pheasant. It is thrown and shot to the left and lands approximately 200 yards from the mat, high up on the opposite hillsideThis bird will be referred to as LF for Long Flyer.

This test is taking approximately 7-10 minutes per dog.

Long Retired (LR) - drove through the area and was handled back to this bird

Short Flyer (SF) - took a line to the right of the SR station and was immediately handled to this bird also


This test is taking between 8-10 minutes per dog

4th Series – Water Blind

77 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs kicked off the 4th series on Monday afternoon at 1:30 pm, beginning with "Fancy," handled by Dave Kress and then "Morgan," handled by Tom Hawley. Tuesday morning we had a single test dog to give a fresh look at the test before we finished up this series.

The first running dog of this series was #55 FC-AFC CLOONEY’S SEASIDE APOSTLE, “Creed,” with handler Derek Smith. They came to the line at 2:01 pm on Monday afternoon.


The weather at the start of this series was nearing 80 degrees with cloudy skies and a light breeze. Tuesday morning when we finished up the series the weather was partly cloudy with temps around 70 degrees.

Here is how things turned out for the 4th Series …

Our last running dog for this Series was dog #54

77 dogs were sent from the line in this series, taking a total of 8 hours and 50 minutes, which averages out to be a just under 7 minutes per dog. 

We will be moving on to the 5th Series location at Lucy Too! Callbacks will be given here on the grounds of the 4th Series. They will be posted on the blog as soon as we have them!
