5th Series – Land Quad

71 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs kicked off the 5th series on Tuesday afternoon at 12:50 pm, beginning with "Morgan," handled by Tom Hawley and then "Fancy," handled by Dave Kress. And Wednesday morning we had a single test dog to give a fresh look at the test before we finished up this series.

The first running dog of this series was #76 FC-AFC TRUMARC’S WEST POINT, “Army,” with handler Sylvia McClure. They came to the line at 1:25 pm on Tuesday afternoon.


The weather at the start of this series was nearing 80 degrees with cloudy skies and a light breeze. Wednesday's weather was much the same.

Here is how things turned out for the 5th Series …

Our last running dog for this Series was a Re-Run for dog #64 
NFC-AFC HOLLAND CLIFFS PLAY IT AGAIN, “Luke,” with handler Alvin Hatcher. They completed the test at 4:15 pm.

71 dogs were sent from the line in this series, taking a total of 12 hours and 45 minutes, which averages out to be a little more than 10 minutes per dog.

Test Ended.  Series 5 was completed and in the books at 4:15 pm.


Re-Run 64. NFC-AFC HOLLAND CLIFFS PLAY IT AGAIN, “Luke,” BLM, Alvin Hatcher

Luke and Alvin were given a Re-Run and came back to the line at 4:06 pm

LF - Short hunt slightly deep of the arc and then over to the haybale and he got it

SR - Line was just left of the fall - took one turn and looped left and then back and got his bird

SF - Line was behind the guns - curved over and went directly to his bird

LR - Line was right of the arc - went up the hill a bit - came back down - hunted the area and came to the area and got his bird

**Flyer is being marked as a handle from the 1st run #64 had for this test (as the LF mark was completed - before he was granted a rerun) **


Handle 74. GENERAL PATTON’S SHADOW, “Abby,” BLF, Tellus Calhoun

Abby and Tellus came to the line at 4:06 pm

LF - Line was under the arc and she went over to her bird

SF - Line brought her under the arc again - one loop down and up and she had it

SR - Good line - drove a little deep and came back - then went deep towards the LR area and a quick handle with 2 whistles brought her back to the SR bird

LR - Line was under the arc - had an area hunt with 2 or 3 loops and then back in to locate the bird



Re-Run 62. FC-AFC BEAVER RUNS ZIG ZAG ZEKE, “Zeke,” BLM, Bert Windham

Zeke and Bert came to the line at 3:49 pm for their rerun

LF - Great mark!

SF - Across the pond - had a couple loops and got it

SR - Out to the area - turned right and got it

LR - Perfect!




Handle 73. THIRD CREEK’S LET’S GET RUFF, “Rousey,” BLF, Lori Morgan

Rousey and Lori came to the line at 3:37 pm

LF - Large area covered but she got it

SR - Flew out to the fall area - just past it and turned around, came back and got it!

LR - Out very deep but came directly back to it

SF - Heading deep left - had to be handled back to this bird



Handle 72. FC REDGATE’S COALFIRED YETI, “Yeti,” BLF, Mark Medford

Yeti and Mark came to the line at 3:28 pm

SF - Straight to the bird

SR - Straight to the bird again

LR - Good line under the arc - went a little farther for a small loop left and then back to the bird

LF - Good line brought her under the arc - her hunt brought her farther left for several loops and was handled to this bird



71. AFC TRUMARC’S MAGNIFICENT FRANCHISE, “Rex,” BLM, Ronald Aronoff

Rex and Ronald came to the line at 3:20 pm

LF - Good line to the fall area and go this bird quickly

SF - Line out was slightly wide of the fall area - had 1 loop around and he got it

SR - Good line to the fall - took a couple loops and got the bird

LR - Good line out again  - had a few loops in the area - left and right and then slightly deep - but came back and got his bird



70. AFC R&A’S TAP DANCER, “Katie,” BLF, Rip Shively

Katie and Rip came to the line at 3:08 pm

LF - Smack!

LR - Came in from the right side - made a pass to the left and came back right and got it

SR - Came in right of the bale - 1 tight turn and she scooped it up

SF - Flew down the field into the pond - came out in front of the guns - went a little deep and then back to the shore - went right and she located her bird



65. FC-AFC BEAVER CREEK’S MAGIC WHITE LIGHTNING, “Madge,” YLF, Sol Semmler

Madge and Sol came to the line at 2:59 pm

LF - Excellent line and she got it!

SR - Went left of the left hay bale - curved back and went a little further - turned back and she got it

LR - Out to the left of the bale - a quick turn and she was back to the bird

SF - Crossed the pond and got deep - caught a breeze and came straight back for her bird

64. NFC-AFC HOLLAND CLIFFS PLAY IT AGAIN, “Luke,” BLM, Alvin Hatcher

Luke and Alvin came to the line at 2:50 pm

LF - Line out brought him under the arc - hunted the area and then came down toward the short retired area - he was handled for quite a while when the judges asked for the dog to be picked up 

(the bird was picked up near the bale where others have landed) 

*the judges have made a call that we are not aware of yet

**UPDATE** Alvin and Luke will have a Re-Run at the end - LF Mark will still be marked as a Handle





No-Bird 62. FC-AFC BEAVER RUNS ZIG ZAG ZEKE, “Zeke,” BLM, Bert Windham

 Zeke and Bert came to the line at 2:46 pm and had a No-Bird, they will be back after 6

61. FC M&T’S MAESTRO’S TANGLED UP IN NOTES QA2, “Rayna,” BLF, Annemarie Poole

Rayna and Annemarie came to the line at 2:36 pm

LF - Shot to the gap between the 2 hay bales and she made a loop through the area and then headed up the hill to get her long flyer

LR - Went down left of the bale and right of the tree - had a brief hunt and then got it

SF - Aimed for the SR but as soon as she was released she had ideas of her own - turned and went for the short flyer - and she got it!

SR - Perfect line



Re-Run 53. FC-AFC SEASIDE LULA BLUE, “Lula,” BLF, Jeffrey Schuett

Lula and Jeff came back to the line at 2:27 pm

SF - Bird was flopping around enough that she had to have it first - missed on her first pass and then she got it

SR - Very nice line to this bird

LF - Through the pond - angled the hillside and straight to the bird

LR - Out to the tree on the right - moved deeper and came back by the bale but she missed it - went deeper left and came back and got it



58. FC-AFC TECHE’S BAYOU KAT, “Kate,” BLF, Wayne Stupka

Kate and Wayne came to the line at 2:17 pm

LF - Out to the fall area and got her bird

LR - Line went wide left but curved in - made a loop behind the blind and then over and got the bird

SF - Line was slightly wide right of the arc but she curved in and went to the bird

SR - A couple loops at the fall area and got it



Handle 57. FC-AFC ATLASTA PRAYER, “Faith,” BLF, Bruce Ahlers

Faith and Bruce came to the line at 2:06 pm

LF - Line under the arc - a couple small turns and she had the bird

SF - Drove deep and went up the hill - was handled back down to this bird

SR - Straight line to the fall area - stopped and turned to grab her bird

LR - Good line out and arrived under the arc - but she drove through and hunted left - right and deep before finally coming back and locating the bird


Handle 56. DELPOND’S PINK ELEPHANT, “Ellie,” BLF, Mark Menzies

Ellie and Mark came to the line at 1:58 pm

LF - Through the pond - up the hill - missed on the right - quick turn back and she got it

SR - Missed by a few feet and headed up the hill - handled back to the bird

SF - Out across the pond and veered right and scooped it up

LF - Went down left and the to the right side of the road - under the arc - got a little deep and then came back in and got it



Handle 55. FC-AFC CLOONEY’S SEASIDE APOSTLE, “Creed,” BLM, Derek Smith

Creed and Derek came to the line at 1:47 pm

LF - Short landing in the right side of the cover - straight to it

SR - Came in on the right and kept going up the hill - was handled back to the bird

LR - Went down the left side of the road with multiple turns along the way - got deep left - but he worked his way back to the bird

SF - Crossed the pond and made quick work of this bird.
